EVERY HUMAN BEING ALIVE HAS INTUITION. If you learn to tune into it, your life will be far safer and I believe far better. My journey with intuition began in 1995 when I had to find a new way to live and started following a new spiritual path. My life was a complete disaster, and I had completely messed up my life. I felt like a failure and a complete loser as a human being. I was in such a deep hole that I knew I couldn’t dig out of it myself. I have always been spiritually oriented and religious, but I thought the religion I’d been following had failed me. When told I would need to turn my will and my life over to the care of something greater than myself, I thought it was something I could easily do. I had to understand there was something greater than me who would help me and that I didn’t have to pull myself out of this alone. My conception of a higher power would pull me out of the hole. I had to be careful not to start digging a new hole as I had been doing my whole life. It was suggested that because I had not really been a good manager of my life, maybe I needed a new manager.

I needed to hear an inner voice that would guide me better than I did. That made perfect sense to me, and from that day forward, I have tried to rely on an inner voice that I define as coming from a loving, compassionate, all-knowing, all-wise universe that only wants the best for me. I realized this all-loving universe loved me more than I could ever love myself. In fact, I realized I didn’t love myself at all, and I’m not sure I’m capable of it. I soon discovered by trial and error that good things would happen if I turned my life over to this all-loving universe. When bad things inevitably happened, I could see how they ultimately led to good things. Every time I convinced myself that the voice of my own ego was that voice, things went terribly wrong. If that’s way too much spiritual stuff for you, that’s okay; I’m moving on now.

These are eight steps to strengthen your evolutionary intuition or spiritual intuition, whichever you believe.

I’m going to use some quotes here too. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

1. You Must Desire It

You have to will it; you have to decide to learn how to hear your intuition.

Everyone who wills can hear the inner voice. It is within everyone.

-Mahatma Gandhi

Trusting your gut.  Using your 6th Sense.  Having a hunch.  These are all ways of describing your built-in intuition or guidance system.  We all have it.  In fact, your gut makes more neurochemicals than your brain.  Some of you may feel you have lost your gut-brain, but there are many ways to get it back. Simply desiring to develop your intuition – or regain it – is a good start.

-Dr. Christiane Northrup

It is a guidance system we all have. I learned that the bacteria in your gut produces ninety percent of the “feel good” serotonin in your body. Maintaining this gut-brain connection is super essential to your well-being.

2. Avoid Distraction

Don’t let yourself get distracted. I know this all too well. I’ve devoted myself to learning how to live by an inner voice, call it a higher power or simply your gut. It’s tough not to be distracted mainly by your ego.

All your life, your ego has been in charge of keeping you safe. It believes that its purpose for existence is to keep you safe. So when you have the idea that you will trust something besides your ego, your ego will rebel. Your ego is going to challenge you. It will fight back and yell louder and more often. You have to decide that you will quiet your thoughts and your ego. The ego is always egocentric, all about “me, me, me,” it comes from a place of lack, “I’ve got to get more.”  This is just what the ego does.

Everyone has the ability to tune in to their intuition. However it’s easy for the voice of your intuition to be drowned out by the competing voices in your daily life, such as your family and friends, your daily responsibilities and the voice of your ego.

3. End Your Dependence On Ego

Be determined to make your life into a life of revelation. That way, your whole life can be magical and sacred. You can either see everything as magic or nothing as magic. Or everything is sacred, or nothing is sacred.

Cease trying to work everything out with your minds. It will get you nowhere. Live by intuition and inspiration and let your whole life be Revelation.

-Eileen Caddy

This one is essential. Your intuition knows what to do. The trick is getting your head to shut up so you can hear.

4. Hard Work Is Required

Our intuition is like a muscle, we must practice listening to it and trusting in its wisdom. When you take the time to ask and keep listening for the answer, being at peace becomes easy.

-Lisa Prosen

You must exercise your intuition. Not only do you have to hear it, you have to trust it, and that’s hard for a lot of us. Your ego doesn’t want you to trust anything but it. The key is to practice listening and trusting its wisdom. You will find peace because you will have heard that voice of your intuition.

5. Learn How Intuition Speaks To You

You must study your body and inner self to learn how your inner voice intuition speaks to you. No two of us hear it the same way. How intuition works for me will probably differ from how it works for you. I can’t tell you what you should do. No one can tell you how to hear the voice of your own intuition. You’re going to have to study it and listen. There’s going to be a lot of trial and error.

It is imperative to listen to your intuition because you can head a blossoming crisis off at the pass. You have to figure out how intuitive impulses feel to you and allow it to become your partner in your success. It will never lead you astray.

-Robert Tucker

This is absolutely true. Suppose you pull into where you plan to set up camp, and either your lizard brain or a loving universe tells you there is danger here. It is warning you before the danger arrives. You’re in a partnership in living your best, safest, most successful, happiest life.

6. Develop A Thick Skin Against Doubt And Naysayers

Being able to put your blinders on, ignore negative opinions, and follow your strong intuition is what’s validating to me. It’s a great feeling to know you can trust your gut.

-Whitney Wolfe Herd

If people find out you’re trying to develop your intuition and live by intuition, many people will think that’s bad. That you’re foolish, silly, or even following a cult. I’m not telling you what to do or what’s best for you. Common sense says evolution has given us intuition for a reason. All the world’s religions and spiritual traditions teach that you’ll hear a voice that will guide you and keep you safe. But there will be a lot of naysayers, and you’ll have a lot of doubt. You will make many mistakes, and you will want to give up.

You will never follow your own inner voice until you clear up the doubts in your mind.

-Roy T. Bennett

Keep pushing through the doubts, fears, and mistakes; when you do it wrong, you must push through. You will find lots of success along the way.

7. Be Excited As You Make Intuition Your Partner

In the mid-fifties, Jonas Salk developed a polio vaccine for what had been a devastating disease. He said over and over again that intuition was key to his work in developing the polio vaccine and in his work since.

It is always with excitement that I wake up in the morning wondering what my intuition will toss up to me, like gifts from the sea. I work with it and rely on it. It’s my partner.

-Jonas Salk

He attributed intuition to his great success but made it his partner. He was excited about it; he woke up looking forward to what intuition could give him as a gift that day.

8. Balance Is Required

Albert Einstein also attributed his successes to intuition. Intuition, imagination, and then a whole lot of hard work.

Imagination encircles the world. Knowledge is necessary too. A child with great intuition could not grow up to become something worthwhile in life without some knowledge. However there comes a point in everyone’s life where only intuition can make the leap ahead, without knowing precisely how.

-Albert Einstein

God gave us brains. If I fail to use it, then I am being foolish. I must use my brain; this balance has been the hardest part for me over the years. So you must always keep learning. If you ever stop learning, your life of progress, being more useful, and having a happier and better life is over.

You’ve made a mistake if you’re thinking about just using intuition or just following your inner voice. Your brain has got to be equally involved. It’s hard, hard work to gain knowledge and experience. Use your brain, mind, and thoughts; they’re not enemies. Don’t ever stop learning. Always seek more logical, reasonable conclusions. But always under the overall guidance of intuition and that inner voice of your higher self.

Let me know what you think. Do you know the voice of your intuition? Have you followed it? Would you like to strengthen it? Do you think these steps will help you become more intuitive?
